Hello!
Just for the records, and because isforth was suggested as a migration
path for colorforth to unix I want to mention, that I tried to use the
bochs - pc emulator to start colorforth.
I used the July31 COLOR.COM from Ch. Moore's Web-site and first a
standard bochs from the Debian distribution, then downloaded bochs
sources and recompiled it with debugger enabled etc.
It did not work out, the two problem spots seem to me Video and Floppy
(sic).
I used the non-free ELP Vesa-Bios for bochs (as well as the free one),
but it did not work either.
Eventually I gave it a try again last night with the 800x600 dma-floppy
colorforth version, but it did not work either, however I did not delve
into details to find out why.
bochs allows you to single step through your operating system, thus
could be nice for debugging. However I understand, that the Hardware
Emulation drivers are not complete, so the special application imposed
on them by colorforth maybe are not emulated correctly. This could be
fixed, right? :-)
Bochs is slow, but on the other hand on fast machines should give users
the oportunity to launch various "colorforth" windows simultaneously
with reasonable interactive response. Colorforth is fast, so it should
be faster then, let's say, Linux in a bochs window.
Best Regards,
Jorge-León
