New Product Annoucement
MuP21 Now Available in 44-Pin PLCC Package
Dear Forth Engines User:
A batch of the MuP21 dies were sent to Phillipines and packaged into the 44-pin
PLCC (Platic Leaded Chip Carriers), and are now available for sale. The
product code is MuP21h. Single unit price is $40. Consult Offete for volume
pricing.
MuP21 was prototyped by Orbit Semiconductor, using their very low cost
Foresight Process. The prototype chips were packaged in 40 pin ceramic DIP
carrier. Hence the production chips were packaged in 40-pin plastic DIP
packages. The DIP packages are inexpensive, but are bulky and limited the
performance of MuP21. The PLCC package is smaller (11/16" square) with a
footprint about 1/3 of the DIP package. It can be surface-mounted to a printed
circuit board.
The pin-out of MuP21h in the PLCC package is:
1 NC 12 NC 23 NC 34 NC
2 D0 13 A9 24 Vss 35 DA18
3 D1 14 A8 25 CAS 36 DA17
4 D2 15 A7 26 RAS 37 DA16
5 D3 16 A6 27 WE 38 DA15
6 D4 17 A5 28 SRAM 39 DA14
7 D5 18 A4 29 IO 40 DA13
8 D6 19 A3 30 VIDEO 41 DA12
9 D7 20 A2 31 RESET 42 DA11
10 D8 21 A1 32 14M 43 DA10
11 D9 22 A0 33 DA19 44 Vdd
MuP21 in PLCC package works much better than that in the DIP packages.
However, we have not had the time and the proper eauipment to fully
characterize its performance. We are in the process of laying out a new PC
board for more testing. The smaller size of PLCC will make the board more
compact and more attractive. If you have a serious application for MuP21, you
should consider using MuP21h.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Dr. C. H. Ting.
