Note that minimizing power consumption drives you to do either a ripple
carry adder or a carry lookahead cascade adder. All the other approaches
have higher power consumptions, in CMOS technologies at least. This result
surprised Swartzlander and his students, and they looked pretty hard at it,
even to the extent of fabricating a test chip.
