Simtek NVram

Bring out the dead.

Well I finally got around to checking out these vrRam parts (well
actually rembered and got there).

They are not "Battery Backed SRAM" as the advertisment states they are
not. They are an actuall combined 4 transistor SRAM/EEPROM beleive
it or not. So when the device is powered down the info is transfered
to the EEPROM cells. Is this the future? Anyway the devices only
come in 8k*8 and 32k*8 so they are not really suitable as one chip
replacement for Ram and Rom on 20 Bit designs, pitty.

Simtek's devices incorporate patented NOVCELr memory cell technology,
which offers performance, density, and reliability improvements over
competitive nonvolatile RAMs by combining standard four-transistor
SRAM with EEPROM in a single memory cell. Simtek's use of silicon
oxynitride technology for the nonvolatile elements allows the design
of a small, high-performance memory cell and enables production in
standard CMOS manufacturing facilities.
