Dear Jason,

.... I
have the same experience with 3.3 GHz PD on Intel945
board. None of the following booted properly - not
 John's CD of CFDOS4, nor floppies with Chuck's CF01,
 nor the Neitz/StMarie CF01, nor Josh's CF05 and a
related CF05 from Ray - though every one of these ran
reliably on my 0.55 GHz P4/ASUS P2. However (to my
 relief!) Howerd Oakford's CFDOS4 (from Howerd's
 website)
 http://www.inventio.co.uk/
runs on both the old and the new machine.

Nick here: For the record, Josh Grams's "color16"
version
of CF05 now runs, though not yet with video.

The trick was to prepare the boot floppy on the same new
machine
that it intends to boot. And to prove that it is
working, even
though the screen is blank, I combined Josh's color16
with
Howerd's music block, modified to run on the faster
machine
as previously explained:

begin?

A bootable CF05 image with music was prepared and tested
on the
old machine, but the floppy from the old machine would
not boot
the new machine. So I deedeed this floppy onto a USB
thumbdrive,
still on the old machine:

    dd if=/dev/fd0 of=cf05music.blk

The thumbdrive was transferred to the new machine, and a
new
boot floppy was prepared:

    dd if=cf05music.blk of=/dev/fd0

This new floppy booted its parent machine, and proved
that
it worked by playing Howerd's setting of Handel's
gavotte,
though with a blank screen.

(Next step, add VBE call 4f01 to locate the modern video
frame
buffer).
